Mitra Jalali Nelson is the first Iranian-American elected to office in Minnesota history. She has worked as a classroom teacher, community organizer, policy aide and congressional staffer, most recently to then-U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison. Mitra’s career has spanned organizing and policy work in immigration, education, voting rights, public safety and other domestic policy. Mitra’s priorities in office include attainable and affordable housing and homeownership, community-first public safety and police accountability, sustainability and transit, and community wealth through economic development. Mitra represents Ward 4 on the St. Paul City Council.
